Day of the dead - Dia de los Muertos 2011 - San...
Dia de los Muertos is celebrated mostly in Mexico to honor the souls of the departed and as a ritual to mock death. The people from which this ritual started viewed death as the continuation of life. Instead of fearing death, they embraced it. To them, life was a dream and only in death did they become truly awake. In rural Mexico, people visit the cemetery where their loved ones are buried....

Le Dîner à San Francisco - White Outdoors Diner...
This is a French tradition that they have been having in France for years - everybody dress in white and bring their food and have a nice chic dinner in the outdoors. This year they had this event for the first time in San Francisco (https://www.facebook.com/ledinerasanfrancisco). We managed to get tickets and attend it.  They had very limited tickets to the event. I somehow managed to get in...

Maddogs of Diego - Mauritian Theatre at the San...
A Mauritian theatre troupe was selected to participate in the San Francisco Fringe Festival - a festival for Indie Theatre. It’s very very rare or rather never, that we get to have Mauritians perform in San Francisco. We were lucky this year that the Trup Sapsiway got to come to San Francisco to perform their piece - the Maddogs of Diego. Maddogs of Diego is a play about the injustice...

Mauritian Flag Sweet Polenta Pudding - Poudine...
Yesterday, we had a potluck to celebrate the Independance day of Mauritius for the Mauritians living in the bay area. I decided to cook something easy - sweet polenta pudding. It’s a very common traditional sweet snack in Mauritius. Usually we don’t add color to it, and it’s yellow and plain. I decided to make it in the colors of our Mauritian flag. Making the pudding is very...
